The Kebab House

Hoboken has a history of firsts: baseball, zippers, Blimpie and Oreos are some of the biggies. But someday we might also add fast-food kebabs to the list.
As we know, Kebab house opened a few weeks ago,, bringing such options as falafel, hummus and lamb kebabs to those looking for a quick, inexpensive meal.
And if investor Joseph Ruis' vision comes true, someday those quick kebabs will be available all over the U.S.
"Something like this doesn't exist today." said Ruis, "It's an alternative for those looking for a quick (healthy) fix."
Plus, most quick kebab and felafel joints aren't usually pleasant places to sit, while Kebab House put a lot of effort into its decor, which has mosaic behind the counter, wood floors and atmospheric hanging glass lamps.
"I can tell already that I like it," said first-time customer Kathia Roberts, a naturopathic physician whose office is across the street. "It's got a great ambiance, a nice, tranquil feel," she said.
"I'm always looking for healthier fast food -- I'm a vegetarian and there aren't many vegetarian places," she added.
But on a recent afternoon there were plenty of meat-eaters to be found as well, such as Michael Bonner, who was eating a plate of roasted chicken and vegetables.
"I've eaten here since they've opened like five times," he said, alluding to the key ingredients for any successful fast food chain. "I like the food and it's reasonably priced."
Ruis added that at Kebab House, all the food is made from scratch daily.
Besides felafel and kebabs (including such varieties as shrimp, chipotle beef and soy-ginger chicken), the restaurant's menu includes lentil and white bean soup, goat cheese salad, a lamb burger, a quinoa tabouli and pastachio creme brule.
